Impression of the day:
Today was a very uneventful day. Archers were expecting the heat and did not complain that much. It was rather busy at the shooting line, but that was to be expected too with this rather large contingent of archers. We have a total of 234 archers from 26 countries. That is a big turn up, but not the biggest ever. Wales is still on top of that list with 248 archers competing in 2008.  Originally China was on the list to be here with 24 archers but communicated just before the tournament they would not be showing up here. Also the Philippines should have been here but could not make it, three out of five Iranian archers could not get their visa's sorted and one archer from Spain is not here.

The material inspection did not bring any news either. We had three compound archers with a draw weight just a bit more than the allowed maximum of 60 pounds and they needed to loose 2 or 3 pounds to be within the limit. And one compound archer had the magnification factor etched in on his scope and the judges wanted that this number would be positioned behind his bubble level so it was not in sight. A little bit picky, since you need to be some sort of superman to be able to focus on that etched number.

So, the only news today was that we got confirmed the 2012 World Championships will be held in Val d'Isère in France. So the flag travels to the Savois region after this tournament.

The opening ceremony did not include a march in because of the heat. We had some speeches, a demonstration of mediaeval fighting skills and a boot trip across the river Danube (Donau). The archers enjoyed themselves.

Tomorrow we start the qualification round here, with an additional hurdle: the forrested areas are literally mosquito infested. They attack by the thousands and they love international cuisine.
