Impression of the day:

Today was a rather slow day in Saignes. According to the program the accreditation was to start at the central assembly area in Currière early in the morning. That did not happen, the accreditation started at about 4 pm. The archers from Montenegro returned in the morning from the field disappointed. "No accreditation, no unofficial training", they reported back to us. I can understand the confusion: in Rogla 2005 an unofficial training possibility was offered and in Bjelovar 2007 it was on the program but the area was just not available during the tournament. This year it was not on the program, and neither offered. Other than the archers from Montenegro we met with the teams from the Czech Republic, Slovenia and we heard Spain arrived early in the morning. All these teams drove up here, so that pretty much rules out problems with disappearing bows and such.

Saignes is ready for the opening ceremony tomorrow. There are signs indicating the road to the field all over the place, flags are waving from lamp posts and banners are hung across the entrance roads to the city. Furthermore, the local restaurants have placemats with the program of the tournament on them. An interesting detail that we did not see before.

And that is pretty much the 'news'  from the European Championships Field Archery today. We checked our provisional list with the list of the organization, and took a close look at the target assignments for Tuesday. We updated the mugshot album as much as possible (with a word of thanks to Domique Porte for pictures from a few French archers missing in our own collection) and enjoyed the shade. We are waiting for things to happen other than taking a look at a herd of cats nearby target 3.
