Today was the unofficial training here in Visegrád. Some teams have arrived early. The Australian team for instance, although I am not sure all of them did. I spoke a few that went to Austria first, and trained and shot a field round there before showing up in Hungary. Smart, getting adjusted to the time difference and get some exercise too! The only thing they could not prepare for was the heat. My thermometer said 42 degrees today and I don't know how accurate it is, but it sure felt hot. The thing that is killing you however, is the humidity: it is around 85 percent. I remember previous tournaments were we experienced hot conditions but it is like football world cups and olympics: the last one is always the best ever. In field archery it seems like the last one is always the hottest ever. Or the wettest ever. On the other hand, I can't imagine we might ever beat Wales in terms of being the wettest championships ever. But the temperature here feels like the hottest ever. I think fondly back of the heat of Vagney and the cool breeze there. Here, even in the shade your arms get wet from just lifting your water bottle out of a rucksack. And the breeze? It is a hot wind that makes you want to get out of it. But there is a flip side to everything: you appreciate the cold shower afterwards all the more. Or the air-conditioning in your room if you are lucky enough to get a room that has one equipped. And I sure as hell enjoyed the trip down the mountain today in my air-conditioned car. Life is never perfect but hopefully the official training tomorrow and the equipment inspection is. Tomorrow will be two centigrades warmer however ;)
