EC Italy LogoImpression of the day:

The European Championships circus moved to the motor cross circuit "Miravalle" today for the team event. It was actually a very nice location for a field. We had quite a few very steep shots in the field, and the 8 targets for the morning session (and quarter finals) were all very challenging. Close to the field was a possibility for archers to practice before starting their round and for the individuals that have to perform tomorrow in the finals but did not compete in the teams match (like Croatia). I must admit I never saw this training field, since I was rather busy crossing the course. A very useful tunnel could be used to go underneath target 1 and another tunnel to get to the peg of target 3. I think that was a first for me, being underneath the archers in a field. As far as a photogenic point of view is concerned, it did not add a lot. It did help me however to walk the course for a couple of times. Did I mention it was steep? And, as usual, the later it got, the higher the temperature. Such common practice, that we are getting used to it. The archers just state the fact (it is hot, troppo caldo, het is weer heet, to je vruće, to je vroče, il fait chaud, ji yra karšta, det är varmt, det er varmt, hace calor, je to horký, je to horúci, se on kuuma, tá sé te, mae'n boeth, heiß nicht?) and move on.

Just like in the World Championships, the men's team from Finland managed to beat the Italians. The Finnish supporters were loud in the stands and where almost louder than the Italians (team and locals). And after beating the Italians, they celebrated with pizza as large as wagon wheels for the whole team. A very tasty addition to the usual lunch packets I might say. At least they were in a good mood for the team photos they had me made today (I take orders). The woman team did not make the finals and the Fins lost their gold medal match to Germany but that did not put a damper on their spirit at all. It still is a silver medal, isn't it? The bronze medal match was the match between Great Britain and Italy ending in a tie, but the shoot off was won by the team from Great Britain.

With the ladies teams the best score in the quarter finals were the scores from Italy, followed by both Sweden and the Netherlands with 102. The Netherlands won the following shoot off but lost their bronze medal match from Austria at the end of the day. The Italian team won the gold medal beating the British Ladies.

In the junior teams event only males were in competition. The German junior team beat the Swedish team in the gold medal match; the juniors from Great Britain tied with Italy but did manage to win the shoot off for the bronze medal.

Tomorrow we will shoot the individual finals in Montevarchi. I'm afraid after the courses we saw today in the crossdromo, the archers will be disappointed with the field part of the last matches of these Championships on the flat field in Montevarchi Stadium.
